2009 With the off season well and truly under way, this is an opportunity to talk about what BuxtonRacePix has in store for the 2010 season. Things are going to change! The Health & Safety concerns which led to a reduction in the number of photographers permitted on the infield had the additional benefit of helping John Holford to recoup some of the business he'd lost in the previous couple of seasons. Even so, despite lowering the image quality of photos on this website the pictures can still be printed off and look quite presentable, and I didn't want to start spoiling things by placing ugly watermarks on them, which was the only further "protection" that was feasible without lowering the image quality so far as to make the pictures impossible to look at. At the same time, I wanted to do as much as possible to ensure that the type of photos John sells can't be more easily gained free of charge via the web. So, instead, as of 2010 BuxtonRacePix is going to present a different type of photograph. There will be racing/action shots, of course, but we're going to move the emphasis away from pictures of individual cars (not totally - each gallery will still have a handful of these) and towards general pictures which give a flavour of the meetings themselves. We're also changing - completely - the format of each gallery. A suggestion was made, some time ago, that we could use a slideshow format. At the time, this presented a number of problems, mostly revolving around the extensive work involved in building each set of links. Furthermore, slideshows tend to be quite restrictive in terms of how pictures can be viewed. Well, we've got around those problems and found an excellent, user-friendly interface with a number of viewing options - you can toggle between different thumbnail layouts, or view the slideshow at full size. By clicking the full-size image you can look at it for as long as you want before clicking it again for the next picture - plus there are Forward/Back buttons allowing you to work through the photos as quickly/slowly as you want. The slideshow format will make its debut early in the New Year when we present a Best of 2009 gallery. |
